Over the last few weeks, I have talked a lot about shadow IT and how it is evolving. I recently did a webinar on AI as the new shadow IT, but there is another area Apple IT administrators need to consider: the web browser. A new report from Omdia, commissioned by Parallels, surveyed 400 IT and cybersecurity professionals and found that 68% of organizations are seeing an increase in browser-based security incidents. Since most enterprise SaaS apps are browser-based, it’s worth considering.

When Aqara announced the Doorbell Camera G400 supported Power over Ethernet, it immediately caught my attention. PoE isn’t for everyone, but if you want it, you’ll likely ignore any option that doesn’t include it. Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 is great as a fallback, but absolutely nothing beats the 24/7 stability of wired cable. The Aqara Doorbell Camera G400 delivers that stability, along with local AI detection and a tall aspect ratio designed to spot packages. Let’s break down exactly what this doorbell brings to Apple Home users.

The Mac’s built-in green LED privacy indicator—paired with those displayed on-screen in macOS—do a solid job of alerting users in real time when the webcam or microphone is active. When you’re actively working on your Mac, they’re hard to miss. But that protection assumes you’re actually there to see the privacy indicators light up.
But what happens when you’re away from your Mac and malware triggers the camera or microphone to quietly record or eavesdrop? How would you know without being there to see it happen?
Well, there’s an app for that.

Last year’s charger trend was the built-in retractable cable. It seemed like overnight, every charger had one. But now, there seems to be a new growing trend in the charging market: diagnostic displays. I have seen more and more chargers add small LED or LCD displays to show simple stats like charging speeds. The nerd in me absolutely loves this. The fact that I no longer need a separate tool to test out charging speed claims has been great. The latest charger to join this trend is Satechi’s new ChargeView 140W charger. It does what you expect from a high-end desk charger, like charge up to four devices via USB-C, and it, of course, adds a display, but it does much more than just give you the charging speed. People love to compare Tim Cook’s tenure to that of Steve Jobs’. They say that Apple hasn’t been able to innovate under Tim Cook and that he never had his iPhone-level moment. In Cook’s defense, no other company or CEO has had an iPhone-level moment since that 2007 announcement. But just because he never had his iPhone moment doesn’t mean nothing happened. Under Tim Cook, Apple didn’t just coast. It built on what Steve Jobs created, and instead of chasing one massive breakthrough, Apple built multiple billion-dollar businesses, expanded into new categories, and turned its ecosystem into one of the most powerful in tech. Think about it, AirPods, Apple Watch, the transition from Intel to Apple silicon, all market disruptors that happened under Tim Cook. So let’s take a look back and see everything from the Tim Cook era.
